The 1968 season of the RBBB show featured Charly Baumann in the steel arena and Hugo Schmidt on the floor with his ponderous pachyderms. Across the ocean, Irvin and Isreal Feld were trying to make the deal of a lifetime.
The entire Circus Williams was purchased and being prepared to head to America. Along with the animals, elephants, cast and equipment was a bright and raising performer with dark hair and a charisma that could be felt across an entire sports arena. The man the world would soon know as Gunther Gebel Williams was coming to America!

Thanks for all of your work to bring this blog to all of us.
Thanks DON,SRQ
They did not buy Circus Williams. They booked the animal acts including a pigeon act worked by Elena Ben Said. Later seasons they would purchase those animal acts but they never bought the circus and it would remain in qtrs. in Germany and Carola Williams, owner would partner with various people with circus endeavors in Europe.I wish that writers, especially historians like yourself would stop using this expression. Thank you. john herriott
Mr. Herriott,
I have the utmost respect for yourself and those before me that are the knowledgeable ones.
One of the hardest parts of being a historian is taking the information provided and then trying to figure out if it is actually true or not. I've found items in Billboard from the turn of the century that didn't go along with the local newspaper accounts.
So I appreciate your correction and that "WE" might all get the story straight.
All my best to you and yours,
Bob
This is the first account of this nature I have heard of the Circus Williams transition. Thank you for educating us, Mr. Herriott.
