Bob, Did some of these trucks go to Hoxie Bros after this show closed ? The stake driver, generator, & bannerline trucks look a lot like the ones I remember on Hoxie Bros.
Hoxie used a rag bannerline during most of the 60's. The reason they look alike because I painted both shows and BOTH shows were purple...
Hoxie and Doc were good friends most of their lives and after their split in 62 they were still friendly towards each other but there was a great amount of disappointment and friction. If Hoxie bought anything from Doc it had to be CHEAP. Their wives never got along. They couldn't agree on what day of the week it was.
I was unhappy to see these true gentlemen part. They were both friends of my family and treat me like a prince. Hoxie got very mad at me for painting Doc's show. He got over it because his Betty ( the sweetheart of the bunch) wanted " her Jimmy " to paint the show.
I remember them all very well but I really miss Betty Tucker.
I performed from 1973 to 1995 with a couple years off in between. I did an aerial cradle act for three years, low wire as a clown, trained llamas, ponies, then lions and tigers for 15 years. I am now a firefighter, a member of the Circus Historical Society and an author of several circus and carnival related subjects.
