The Hippo Show was owned and operated by David L.Bartok, Doc's and Betty's son. He was married to the former Tina Christianni. The hippo was featured on the Hoxie Bros. and Bardex Circus in 1962. They had a special 1 sheet for the hippo.
The Bardex was a referral to Doc's medience show ,which I remember visiting with my parents when I was about 9 or 10.
David was killed in a horrible auto accident a few years later (64?) and I don't think his parents ever got over it. Dave was a good friend of mine.
I performed from 1973 to 1995 with a couple years off in between. I did an aerial cradle act for three years, low wire as a clown, trained llamas, ponies, then lions and tigers for 15 years. I am now a firefighter, a member of the Circus Historical Society and an author of several circus and carnival related subjects.
