Walter L. Main Train Wreck - 1893
After the photos from David Orr were sent out last week of the Carson & Barnes elephants laying a wreath at the site, I found the following four pictures in my uncle's collection this past weekend. All of the them are photos of photos but show the terrific damage. I believe the story details five members of the show losing their life as well as many of the animals.
I performed from 1973 to 1995 with a couple years off in between. I did an aerial cradle act for three years, low wire as a clown, trained llamas, ponies, then lions and tigers for 15 years. I am now a firefighter, a member of the Circus Historical Society and an author of several circus and carnival related subjects.
