This amazing courier is dated 1909. I've read a little discussion about the artwork / phtography issues in the past. I would swear the tiger here is a photograph. Not being an expert, was there color photography in 1909? The Courier was produced by the Regensteiner Colortype Co. out of Chicago. It has four color pages inside as well as front and back covers.

Those whiskers sure beg the question , did they have photo-shop in 1909 too?
If that tiger wasn't a photograph, it's some of the finest artwork I have ever seen.

They could afford to have the best of the best. With two shows on the road in 1909 with two shows a day, and with seating for almost 10,000 a show. Had more money then John D. Rockerfeller.
They could make a black and white photo and essentially colorize it for the printing process. It was a common technique.
The Ringlings were a far cry from Rockefeller and other industry magnates. Look at the profit numbers in Jerry Apps Ringlingville book for a dose of reality.
Yes, I understand in today's dollars, Rockerfeller would be worth almost 200 billion. I was only making a statement that money wasn't a problem when it came to their shows. I was going to use "more money then Bim Gump" but didn't think anyone would remember the phrase. lol
