This litho was used to promote the spec "The Last Days of the Century" during the 1899 season. "The Last Days of The Century" opened the show that year and had a military theme - which featured literally hundreds of horses and focused on the successes that the army and navy had during the Spanish-American War which had ended a few months earlier.
I performed from 1973 to 1995 with a couple years off in between. I did an aerial cradle act for three years, low wire as a clown, trained llamas, ponies, then lions and tigers for 15 years. I am now a firefighter, a member of the Circus Historical Society and an author of several circus and carnival related subjects.
