Regarding whether or not this is cottage: Conover's "anything that doesn't have a flat roof" may be a little broad. After all, many many circus wagons of old had arched roofs.
I performed from 1973 to 1995 with a couple years off in between. I did an aerial cradle act for three years, low wire as a clown, trained llamas, ponies, then lions and tigers for 15 years. I am now a firefighter, a member of the Circus Historical Society and an author of several circus and carnival related subjects.

This is not a cottage cage.
Granted it is not nearly as elaborate as some of the others, but the man is clearly standing up in the raised section giving a non-typical roof.
A very "basic" comparision comes in the old John Robinson seal den #31 with a fully rounded roof. I use this simply as a wide open comparision.

Isn't there a reproduction of this cage at the Hall of Fame in Peru?
