Barnum & Bailey in Europe

There were two different series of postcards issued while Barnum & Bailey was overseas. They were discussed in great detail on Buckles blog about a year ago, maybe longer than that.

Bob,
Actually, there are at least four series of B&B postcards for the European tour. The two different color sets, produced after the initial seasons playing England, are the "kunst anstall vereinigle" or art factories series of 12 including the one you show here, and the scarcer and gorgeous Franzl & Cie. set printed in Munchen (Munich). Years ago I recall seeing some in the art factories format with eastern European text; whether they are the same images or yet another set, I do not know. Two black-and-white series exist for the end of the five year tour when they visited France: Courmont produced the more common set (at least one numbered card of this series showing the unloading exists in two different versions) and a set with postal mailing information on the back in French only though the cards were printed in Dresden by Wilhelm & Hoffmann.
