I was on the Beers and Barnes Circus in '66... I remember that straight job... Harold had the pit show loaded in it and a lincoln welder that was also the backup generator for the show... The truck was also the shop... That outfit could go into the woods with an axe and come out with a center pole... Once we caught a lightning strike which split the #3 center pole on the bale ring top and had to do just that... I distinctly remember the all night campfire and how we heated a stake to burn a hole through the log...
I performed from 1973 to 1995 with a couple years off in between. I did an aerial cradle act for three years, low wire as a clown, trained llamas, ponies, then lions and tigers for 15 years. I am now a firefighter, a member of the Circus Historical Society and an author of several circus and carnival related subjects.
