What were the color code bars for near the center of the photo?

The GTE KarTrak ACI (Automatic Car Identification) panel is an early visual barcode type system used in the late 1960's and abandoned in the late 1970's. It failed to operate well enough due to dirt obscuring the bars. It may be compared to the UPC barcode printed on most consumer products sold by stores today.
It has been replaced with a system that is similar to RFID (Radio Frequency Identification)
