The GTE KarTrak ACI (Automatic Car Identification) panel is an early visual barcode type system used in the late 1960's and abandoned in the late 1970's. It failed to operate well enough due to dirt obscuring the bars. It may be compared to the UPC barcode printed on most consumer products sold by stores today. It has been replaced with a system that is similar to RFID (Radio Frequency Identification)
I performed from 1973 to 1995 with a couple years off in between. I did an aerial cradle act for three years, low wire as a clown, trained llamas, ponies, then lions and tigers for 15 years. I am now a firefighter, a member of the Circus Historical Society and an author of several circus and carnival related subjects.
