Here are three slides from my uncle's collection that he took in 1964. He hand wrote on them Ocean Springs, MS. I found them very interesting as I didn't know that the Millers called anywhere except Hugo, OK. home.

Cash for Clunkers?
I got this from fellow CHS member P.J. Holmes in Texas. P.J. has sent this in to the Houston Chronicle. This Congress has lost their minds!

The real problem with the Clunker program is that you are junking cars and trucks that don't have a smog issue. In our state, we have in some counties where you can turn in your car or truck if it has a smog issue and a certain dollar figure is given in returned for a "new" or "used" vehicle of a certain age. Smart,you get smog off the roads and all classes of people can use the program.
With the "Clunker" program, you can only buy a new car. I don't know about you, but the rich,this won't make a difference. Middle class and lower middle class???? Got kids in school, worried about their jobs, house payments....bet they aren't in line at the dealers. So, you have a deal for the upper middle class to save 4500.00 off a new car purchase... trade in their car or truck and let them junk it. Wait..it doesn't have a smog issue, just doesn't get great fuel mileage... So for the 1 billion dollars we took out over 225,000 cars and trucks that the middle and lower middle class would have purchased when the upper middle class traded in their cars... Been working like this forever...... Gone.... So, now we have driven up the cost of a used car,(less supply) to the middle class, who are going to pay in the form of higher income tax for the upper middle class to buy a new car. And with less supply of used cars, people will have to hold on to their cars longer. Which means more smog on the roads.......And they want to add another 2 billion to this program. If they wanted to do something smart, they could have collected all the cars and trucks and swapped them to someone that had a vehicle with a smog issue and crushed all the junk. But no, they are junking vehicles that may only get 15mph....
and we are getting to foot the bill ( well maybe my kids and grandkids).

Cash for Clunkers?
This Letter to the Editor was in the Columbia, SC newspaper "The State" this week. This needs to be addressed to every one in Congress. You'll find it on the web at http://www.thestate.com/letters/story/891493.html or read it here.
• Destroying cars is waste of money
Our government is “acting stupidly” by destroying the engines of functional automobiles.
Consider a person who has a “clunker” that runs fine and who drives 7,500 miles a year getting 15 miles per gallon, a monthly fuel cost of $100, and has minimal liability-only insurance. If that person takes advantage of this government giveaway, the result could well be a $25,000 auto loan on a car costing $29,500, the $4,500 down payment being covered by the “clunker” rebate. The new car gets 25 miles per gallon, so fuel cost is now $60 a month — a negligible savings of $40. However, a 48-month auto loan at 4 percent for the $25,000 will cost $525 per month, and insurance will increase dramatically. So this person’s transportation cost has suddenly increased from less than $100 per month to more than $600.
The program might have made a little bit of sense if it were restricted to persons required to drive high-mileage vehicles and if the “clunkers” were diverted to low-mileage use such as simply getting back and forth to a job each day. But to intentionally destroy a functioning, affordable automobile is stupid when tens of thousands of low-income people have trouble getting or keeping jobs because of lack of affordable transportation.

More Sells Bros. Circus circa 1871-1895
This Beautiful flyer was created by the Columbus Historical Society to celebrate the Circus and the Sells Bros. in particular. They have an exhibit up at the Historical Society as well as having Fred Pfening III give this great presentation on the Sells Bros. Circus. Later this month is a gathering at the original Sells Home built 114 years ago by Peter Sells if I remember right.

The S.H. Barrett show was a second unit of the Sells Bros. S.H. Barrett himself was a brother-in-law. This show stayed on the road from 1881 to 1887.

Sells Bros. Circus circa 1871-1895
I had the opportunity to hear Fred Pfening III give a presentation to the Columbus area Historical Society two weeks ago on the Sells Bros. Circus. Most, if not all, of the posters used in this presentation were graciously provided by the Cincinnati Art Museum's huge Strobridge Litho Collection. I got to meet Krisitin Spangenberg, the Museum curator of Prints and a fellow CHS member while I was there. What a great night it was. Thanks Fred!
