Cole Bros. Circus - 2011

Hal Guyon and I went to see the Cole Bros. Circus in Florence, SC Wedneday night. After a 250 mile jump, the tent crew went to work and actually had the tent in the air before the pouring rains started that lasted all day. The seat trucks are all gone now with the entire show set up on jacks and stringers and folding chairs. New to the show this year is Laura Herriott and her mixed anaiml act, Johnny Herriott Walker is working three of the Carson and Barnes elephants, and the Hawthorn Circus Corp. large tiger act is on the show this year. The show also has a real live aerial ballet.

Where's Bob been?

I've been busy! I've seen a few shows already this year. Going to see the Cole Bros. tomorrow and catch Bob Childress' Lewis and Clark next week. I made a fast four day trip to Ohio to see mom for a couple days and came to Cincinnati on the way home for several hours to see the John Robinson collection at the Cincinnati Historical Society located here at the Amtrak station and then saw the beautiful Strobridge Litho exhibit at the Cincinnati Art Museum before heading home. Once we got back to the ranch, I had to build a new building and get alot of stuff out of storage finally. With all of that behind me now, the Circus historical Society Newsletter is ready to go out later this week and the Annual renewals are already being sent out. Aside from some research into the cottage cages, I've been wasting some time sleeping a little at night. So much to do and so very little time to do it all. On top of that, my fellow blogger, Mr. Jim Peterson has started having blog problems again. He emailed me and told me to get back to work here as someone had to start picking up the slack.

Wheeler Bros. Circus

The Wheeler Bros. Circus wintered in Oxford, PA. Here was the training Barn in 1917.

This lot layout is dated 1916. On the back is Joe Rettinger. ( Joe was an avid circus historian and circus fan )

This Bandwagon was on Wheeler Bros. in 1916. I think I'm right in saying it was on the old Carl Hagenbeck Show.

This photo was taken at their PA. Winter Quarters in 1917. The wagon in the center is an odd configuration with a raised roof in the middle. Any ideas?
