A Royal Coupling

William L. Slout authored this amazing book about the relationship and business tidings that eventually became a union of shows with Barnum & Bailey joining together and solidifying the "Greatest Show on Earth." This book has been long out of print and is a Circus Historians dream book to have.
This book has been re-issued as a Print on Demand book meaning everytime someone orders it, they make it. Order five, they print five. You can order the book for around $17.00 through Barnes and Nobles, Amazon.com, Buy.com and other internet sites. I've already ordered mine!

Barnum

This 1986 movie that featured Burt Lancaster as the iconic, P.T. Barnum, also gave credit to the Ringling / Barnum show for resources used during the filming.

Campbell Bros.

Here is the Campbell Bros. Advance car sitting in winter quarters in Fairbury, NE. Having authored the Campbell Bros. story in the Bandwagon back in the Jan. / Feb. 2009 issue, this show was a good sized railroad show carrying some big name performers and 11 elephants in 1908, 1909, and 1910 before a train wreck in Wisconsin claimed two of the elephant's lives.

While these route cards are from different years, I have seen at least seven different headings on the route cards of the same season. Was this unique to just the Campbell show or did a lot of shows at the turn of the century keep changing the route card designs in the same season?

Circus Day

It's Circus Day here today. We are going to see the Royal Hanneford Circus this morning and then the Ringling Blue Unit this afternoon. Ringling Red is in Greenville, SC this week which places all of the Ringling train in South Carolina in the same week. According to yesterday's newspaper, there are 61 cars on the blue unit.
