Hodge Podge

Here are a few loose pictures that were in my uncle's scrapbooks. Look at that show front, will ya? That had to be a beast to put up and down.

Lewis and Clark Circus

We're off to see the Lewis and Clark Circus tonight in Pageland, SC. The show is owned by Bob Childress. It is witout a doubt one of my favorite under canvas shows. Operated under a hip roof top as a one ring display, the show offers great circus entertainment. I can't wait!

You can visit their website at http://www.lewisandclarkcircus.com/home They have several videos of the show on ther website as well as the general admission and free children's tickets.

America's Elephants

This is my book that I self-published as an e-Book. Having never seen one before it was pretty interesting in creating it. When you buy it, you instantly recieve the link to the book and you can sit at your computer with your coffee, pepsi, cinnamon rolls or whatever and read the book at your leisure in the peace and quiet of your own home. I'm also an animal man so I am donating $1.00 from every sale to the OABA Animal fund. My book is on Amazon.com and my website at

Ray Rogers Shows

Beginning in 1928, Ray Rogers took a show on the road he called Barnett Bros. Circus. Starting in Canada, he eventually moved south to York, South Carolina. The title changed to Wallace Bros. Circus in 1937 back to Barnett Bros. for 1938 and 1939 then back to Wallace Bros. from 1940 to 1942. In 1943 he teamed up with Clyde Beatty for the Clyde Beatty-Wallace Bros. Circus. 1944 was the last season as Wallace Bros. Circus.
There is a fantastic eight part series on these shows in the Bandwagons from May June 1974 through July August of 1975.

I don't know why the scanner didn't pick up the colors in this.

Jan. / Feb. 2010

The latest edition is now out after a major article had to be replaced at the very last minute. Talk about scrambling to get it done. Join the Circus Historical Society at www.circushistory.org

Ertl Set

After the CMB Convention, I am reminded of how nice these ERTL wagons from the Circus World Museum collection turned out. They were about 1/4" scale.

These next two were sent to me by a lady in Iowa. These apparently were prototypes that were made but never produced. Her friend worked at ERTL and they told him if he wanted them, he could have them.

CHS Convention

Please double click this to make it larger. This years CHS convention is going to a real thriller. This will probably be the only time that we will be able to meet and talk to Juan and Miquel Vasquez, Richie Gaona, Tony Steele, Terry Caveratta and Cherie Valentine all at the same place about the flying trapeze. The Convention is slammed full of events and speakers as well as the Trapeze workshop, films, and filming at the same time. The best part about this is..... ANYONE can attend. The CHS conventions are open to registrations by anyone. So even if you don't belong to the CHS, you can still attend this amazing event. Get this on your calendar now. Go to http://www.circushistory.org/ for the registration form.

Here are some more of Peter Rosa's photos from the Beatty-Cole winter quarters in 1999.

What's left of the truck at the left was Dave Hoover's cat act truck. Dave told me that this was one of the two Beatty cage trucks and that they had to cut the entire cage off due to the urine and rust and just used the trailer to start over with.

Clyde Beatty-Cole Bros. Circus ( from Peter Rosa )

Here come the rest of the Rosa Photos of the Beatty-Cole Winter Quarters taken in 1999. We have had some major technical difficulties trying to get Peter's photos from his Mac into my Windows system. So they all took the scenic route to Mr. John Evans in England who was kind enough to forward them back to me in a format that will allow all of you to enjoy them. There will be plenty more photos coming during the next few days.
